Kaduna State University (KASU) is set to enhance safety education and management within its academic and administrative framework following a strategic meeting with the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON). The meeting, took place on Thursday, 23rd January 2025 at the Faculty of Management Science.
The President of ISPON, Engr. Timothy Chimezie Iwuagwu accompanied by Mrs. Hadiza Kachalla, Borno State Coordinator and governing board member, Alhaji Suleiman Dankwanbo, expressed gratitude for KASU’s swift response to their request. He outlined the institute’s objectives, stressing its role in regulating safety management in Nigeria. He highlighted the institute’s efforts in expanding its presence to Northern Nigeria, following its establishment in the South West and South South regions.


Underscoring the significance of safety in all institutions, Engr. Iwuagwu stressed that organizations must have certified safety officers overseeing protocols. He also discussed the institute’s role in supporting the Federal Government by developing specialized courses that equip individuals with essential safety management skills, ultimately improving employability and reducing unemployment. Additionally, he noted that safety regulation has the potential to generate revenue through the monetization of safety compliance protocols.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Yushau I. Ango, alongside the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Strategy, Innovation and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen A. Andow, welcomed the ISPON delegation and acknowledged the crucial role of safety in institutional and national development. He expressed KASU’s enthusiasm for a collaboration, assuring the guests that the university would take necessary steps to facilitate the partnership.

Supporting this sentiment, the Director of KASU Consult, Prof. H.O. Aboh, emphasized the importance of prompt action and proposed the organization of an awareness program in partnership with ISPON.
Dr. Abdullahi Abubakar, Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Business Development, reaffirmed KASU’s commitment to developing programs that address contemporary societal challenges. He stressed the university’s role in redefining education to meet global standards and expressed eagerness to organize a collaborative initiative with ISPON in the near future.
With both institutions aligned on the importance of safety management, this potential partnership is expected to set a precedent for integrating safety education into academic institutions across the country.
