Message from the Director

Welcome to the Centre for Forensic Science, Illicit Drug Analysis, and Sensor Technology at Kaduna State University. The centre brings together expertise in forensic science, drug analysis, digital investigation, and sensor technology to address challenges affecting justice, public health, environmental safety, and national security.
Through innovative research, professional training, and strategic partnerships, we are committed to developing practical solutions, strengthening institutional capacity, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. We invite researchers, students, professionals, government agencies, industry, and development partners to collaborate with us in building safer and healthier communities.

Mission

To advance interdisciplinary research and technology in forensic science, drug surveillance, and sensor applications while delivering high-quality training, fostering strategic partnerships, and developing practical solutions for safer and healthier communities.

Vision

To become a premier research and training centre for forensic science, illicit drug analysis, and sensor technologies in Nigeria, advancing justice, public health, and national security.

Core values

  • Advance research and innovation in forensic science, illicit drug detection, digital forensics, and sensor technology.
  • Build the capacity of students, researchers, law-enforcement personnel, public-health professionals, and industry practitioners.
  • Develop affordable, reliable, and field-ready technologies for drug, environmental, and public-safety monitoring.
  • Promote collaboration, technology transfer, commercialization, and evidence-based policy support.

Who We Are

Illicit drugs, environmental contaminants, and cybercrime do not respect borders — and neither does the science needed to fight them. CFIDAS brings forensic chemistry, digital investigation, and sensor engineering under one roof, so that evidence — not guesswork — drives decisions in justice, public health, and national security.
Our work spans the laboratory and the field: researchers profile narcotics and identify adulterants, engineers build sensors that catch contaminants before they reach communities, and investigators trace the digital trails behind cybercrime and online trafficking. Through short courses and certification programmes, we pass these skills on to the law-enforcement officers, health professionals, and industry practitioners who need them most.

CFIDAS partners with government agencies, international bodies, and industry to move findings out of the lab and into practical use.

Our Services

  • Forensic Chemistry and Toxicology: Analysis and profiling of illicit drugs, identification of adulterants, and toxicological support for drug-related investigations.
  • Sensor Research and Development: Design and development of sensor-based technologies for detecting narcotics, water contaminants, and environmental pollutants.
  • Digital and Cyber Forensics: Digital-evidence analysis and technology-supported investigation of cybercrime and online drug-trafficking activities.
  • Training and Professional Certification: Short courses, workshops, and certification programmes in forensic toxicology, drug analysis, sensor technologies, digital forensics, and cybersecurity.
  • Research, Consultancy, and Policy Support: Collaborative research, technical consultancy, technology evaluation, and evidence-based recommendations for public and private institutions.
  • Technology Transfer and Commercialization: Translation of laboratory innovations into practical solutions for law enforcement, public health, environmental monitoring, and industry.

CFIDAS Community Outreach

CFIDAS in action: highlights from two recent outreach activities dedicated to public safety and drug-abuse prevention. In preparation for the 2026 pilgrimage, the Centre sensitised intending pilgrims of the Kaduna State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Agency on the legal and health risks of illicit drugs, the safe carriage of prescription medicines, prohibited contraband items, and the modern forensic detection tools used to identify them. Participants left with a clearer understanding of travel regulations and safety requirements, reinforced through live demonstrations of detection devices.

The gallery also captures the “Strong Minds, Drug-Free Kaduna” awareness rally, held on 26 June 2026 to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Organised by CFIDAS in collaboration with the KASU Drug-Free Club and the NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency), the rally brought students and staff together to promote informed choices, healthy lifestyles, and collective action toward a safer, drug-free university and wider Kaduna community.

Together, these activities reflect CFIDAS’s ongoing commitment to translating forensic science and public-health awareness into real community impact.
