About the Department

English, linking the continents with ease.

The Department of English and Drama is one of the few Undergraduate degree awarding Departments with which the University started in the year 2004.The academic staff strength from inception to date ranks among the best in any University in Nigeria and around the world as distinguished scholars made the list. And following the favourable NUC Accreditation in the year 2014, the Department started floating Postgraduate programmes in Master of Arts (MA English and MA Literature), and Postgraduate Diploma in English Studies. In the year 2020, we started doctorial degree programmes (Ph.D) in English and Literature.

Research

A recent departmental research project titled “The Role of Literature in Promoting Social Justice in Nigeria” examined how contemporary Nigerian authors address issues such as inequality, corruption, and identity.
