SENATE COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC PROCUREMENT ENGAGES TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS ON TETFund PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION IN NORTH-WEST NIGERIA

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Procurement, Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, has convened a meeting with Directors of Procurement and head of Tetfund Units from tertiary institutions across the North-West region of Nigeria to review procurement practices and ensure the effective utilisation of funds allocated for infrastructural development by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund TETFund.

The meeting, held on Monday, 2 November 2026, at the Conference Room of Kaduna State University KASU, was aimed at strengthening compliance with established procurement guidelines, promoting accountability and addressing challenges associated with the implementation of TETFund-funded projects in tertiary institutions.
Speaking at the meeting, Senator Ipinsagba explained that the gathering was organised to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange ideas, assess the utilisation of funds allocated to their respective institutions and identify ways to improve project implementation.

He noted that TETFund had provided resources for critical infrastructure, including laboratories, libraries, lecture theatres and other essential facilities needed to enhance teaching, learning and research across tertiary institutions.
The Senator further explained that the meeting would serve as a platform to identify and correct previous procurement and implementation lapses, while developing lasting solutions to prevent similar challenges in future projects.
Responding on behalf of the participating institutions, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Kaduna State University, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, who also represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, assured the Chairman of the Senate Committee that the institutions were committed to complying with established guidelines governing the utilisation of TETFund allocations.

Prof. Ali reaffirmed the institutions’ commitment to upholding the objectives and requirements of TETFund, stressing that funds allocated for specific projects would be used strictly for their intended purposes.
He emphasised the importance of accountability, transparency and responsible financial management in ensuring that every kobo allocated to infrastructural development delivers the intended benefits to the institutions and their students.
The meeting underscores the importance of sustained engagement between legislative oversight bodies and tertiary institutions in promoting transparency, strengthening procurement processes and ensuring that public funds allocated to the education sector translate into tangible infrastructural development.
