Message from the Director

Welcome to the Centre for Kaduna Studies (CKS), Kaduna State University.
The Centre was established to advance knowledge about Kaduna State and subnational studies and to translate such knowledge into practical solutions for development, good governance, and societal progress.
Kaduna State’s rich history, cultural diversity, strategic importance, and development opportunities call for rigorous research, informed public dialogue, and sustained collaboration among universities, government, communities, and development partners. CKS provides a platform for this engagement through an interdisciplinary approach that brings together scholars and partners from diverse fields and perspectives.

Who We Are

The Centre for Kaduna Studies (CKS) is a university-wide, multidisciplinary research centre established by Kaduna State University in 2026. The Centre serves as a hub for research, documentation, and policy engagement focused on the history, culture, economy, environment, and development dynamics of Kaduna State.
CKS brings together scholars from diverse disciplines, including History, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Languages and Linguistics, Geography and Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Religious Studies, and the STEM disciplines. Its multidisciplinary approach recognises that Kaduna State’s history, culture, economy, environment, science and technology, governance, and development challenges are interconnected.
Through research, documentation, publications, postgraduate training, and stakeholder collaboration, the Centre seeks to generate and preserve evidence-based knowledge, support government and community-driven development initiatives, and strengthen Kaduna State University’s role as a knowledge partner to Kaduna State and the nation.

Founding Objective

The Centre for Kaduna Studies will serve as a multidisciplinary hub for research, documentation, and policy engagement on the history, culture, economy, environment, and development dynamics of Kaduna State. The Centre will promote evidence-based scholarship, preserve indigenous knowledge, support government and community-driven development initiatives, and enhance Kaduna State University’s relevance as a knowledge partner to the State and the nation. By fostering academic research, postgraduate training, publications, and stakeholder collaboration, the Centre will also strengthen community engagement and attract grants and consultancy opportunities. It is presented as a strategic academic and developmental initiative aligned with the University’s mandate and regional leadership role.

The Centre for Kaduna Studies operates as a university-wide, multidisciplinary research centre, drawing scholars from History, Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Languages and Linguistics, Geography and Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Religious Studies, the STEM disciplines and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor.
The Centre’s focus is to treat the State’s history and culture, its economy and environment, science and technology, and its governance and development challenges as interconnected subjects of study. This positions the Centre to fill a genuine knowledge gap, to support evidence-based governance and community-driven development in Kaduna State drawn from all the disciplines to strengthen Kaduna State University’s relevance and visibility as a knowledge partner to the State and the nation, consistent with the University’s mandate and development role.
