The Kaduna State Pension Bureau, in conjunction with Pension Fund Administrators, has held a one-day sensitisation programme on the Contributory Pension Scheme for Kaduna State workers at Kaduna State University (KASU).

The programme, held on 6 June 2026, brought together government representatives, workers, retirees, organised labour and representatives of Pension Fund Administrators to help workers better understand pension matters and prepare for life after service.
In his opening remarks, Mallam Ibrahim Balarabe stressed the importance of planning for retirement early. He advised workers not to depend only on their pension after retirement, but to make personal plans for important needs such as housing, children’s education and other family responsibilities.

In a goodwill message, Right Honourable Ali Kalat highlighted the importance of the Social Security Scheme in improving the welfare of retirees. He noted that the Kaduna State Social Security Scheme law was sponsored and passed by the State House of Assembly and later approved and signed into law by the Executive Governor, Senator Comrade Dr. Uba Sani, CON.

He stressed that pension laws should continue to be reviewed and improved when necessary to make life better for retirees.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kaduna State, described the programme as timely, noting that pension is not only about money but also about the welfare and dignity of workers after many years of service.

He urged workers to understand how the Contributory Pension Scheme works, keep proper records of their pension contributions and ask questions whenever they have concerns. He also advised young workers to start preparing for retirement early and develop other sources of income rather than depending only on salary and pension.
The programme provided an opportunity for workers and retirees to better understand their pension rights and responsibilities and the need to make proper plans for a secure life after retirement.
