Kaduna State University (KASU) has trained its non-teaching staff on the development of functional job descriptions and effective performance management as part of efforts to improve productivity and accountability in the University.
The training, held on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, was facilitated by officials from the Office of the Head of Service, Kaduna State, including the Director of the head of service Mr Abbas Ibrahim Musa, and his team Yusuf Murtala Kargi, Michael Ishaku and Mallam Abdulkadir Aminu.

Declaring the training open, the Academic Secretary of KASU, Mrs Amina Abutu, who represented the Registrar, encouraged participants to be interactive and actively engage with the facilitators throughout the programme.
The training focused on helping staff develop functional job descriptions that clearly define their duties, reporting relationships, required competencies, expected outputs and outcomes. Participants were also taken through the relationship between job descriptions and performance assessment, with emphasis on the need for measurable and evidence-based results.
The facilitators explained that every employee should have a functional job description and a designated supervisor, stressing that employees would be assessed based on their assigned responsibilities and the results achieved.

The session also covered the Employee Performance Management Appraisal System (EPMAS), including self-assessment and supervisor assessment. Staff were advised to document their achievements, provide evidence of completed tasks, explain reasons for unachieved targets and identify areas requiring improvement.
The training further highlighted the importance of appropriate skills, knowledge, competencies and continuous development in achieving effective individual and institutional performance.
The programme concluded with Mrs Florence Suleiman the deputy registrar student affairs delivering the closing remarks.
