Kaduna State University (KASU), in collaboration with ORCID, on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, organised a training programme titled “Leveraging ORCID for Early Career Researchers: Building a Research Identity for a Sustainable Academic Career” at the University Library to equip researchers with the knowledge and skills needed to improve the visibility and impact of their research.
Delivering the keynote presentation, Dr. Khali Allamagani (PhD), ORCID-WACA Ambassador, explained that ORCID, which stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID, is a free, unique and persistent digital identifier that enables researchers to connect their research outputs, institutional affiliations and professional activities to their identity throughout their academic careers.
She highlighted the importance of ORCID, noting that it reduces name ambiguity among researchers, saves time through integration with research systems, remains with researchers throughout their careers, is trusted by publishers and research funders, strengthens research visibility, enhances funding and publishing opportunities, promotes easier collaboration, provides global recognition and increases the discoverability of research outputs.
Dr. Allamagani also stressed that researchers are required to use their institutional email addresses when creating ORCID accounts, adding that the overall objective is to maximise the opportunities available on the platform for academic growth and increased research impact.
Further enlightening participants, Dr. Usman Adams provided additional insights into the benefits of ORCID and conducted a practical session demonstrating how participants could successfully create and set up their ORCID accounts.
The Vice-Chancellor of Kaduna State University Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa also addressed participants, offering scholarly perspectives on the significance of ORCID in advancing research excellence. He encouraged researchers to embrace the platform as an essential tool for building credible academic profiles, increasing the global visibility of their research, and fostering collaborations within the international research community.
The training provided participants with practical knowledge on creating and updating ORCID records, linking their ORCID accounts to Kaduna State University affiliations, and applying the platform to support career progression. The programme reaffirmed KASU’s commitment to promoting research excellence and equipping its researchers with globally recognised digital tools that enhance academic visibility, collaboration and professional development.
