Kaduna, Nigeria – The Centre for Energy and Environmental Strategy Research (CEESR) at Kaduna State University (KASU) has been selected as a key stakeholder to participate in a two-day national workshop focused on drafting a state-level implementation plan and guidelines for the management of waste from used Off-Grid Renewable Energy Equipment (OGREE).

The workshop, which took place from Monday 22nd to Tuesday 23rd June 2026 at City Den Apartments, Ungwan Rimi, Kaduna, brought together experts and stakeholders from various sectors to contribute to Nigeria’s transition towards a sustainable and circular economy.
The event was organized under the project titled “Promoting Small Hydropower Development and Circular Economy Approaches in Nigeria,” specifically under Component 2 Sub-Project: “Advancing Nigeria’s Green and Just Transition to Net Zero through Circular Economy Practices.” The initiative is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
A total of 20 stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Kaduna Environmental Protection Authority (KEPA), academia, and other relevant experts, participated in the workshop. The discussions centered on developing actionable policies and frameworks for effective management of waste generated from off-grid renewable energy equipment, which is rapidly increasing due to the growing adoption of clean energy solutions in Nigeria.
Representing KASU at the workshop were distinguished scholars and experts, including Dr. Zaharadeen Isah, Prof. M.M. Aliyu, Dr. Kabir I. Aliyu, and Dr. Mustapha Isah. Their participation underscores the university’s commitment to contributing to national and global environmental sustainability efforts.
The workshop marks a significant step in addressing the environmental challenges associated with renewable energy waste while promoting circular economy practices that support Nigeria’s journey toward achieving net-zero emissions.
