As part of the activities commemorating Kaduna State University’s 20th anniversary, the KASU Majlis Sisters Forum organized a special Ramadan lecture. The event, titled “Harmony of the Heart and Mind: An Islamic and Scientific Guide Through Life’s Trials – The Diary of a Working-Class Female and Student,” was open to old staff, new staff, students, and the general public.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Fatima Y. Ja’afar from the Department of Human Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, KASU. She discussed the challenges women face in balancing work, household duties, and childcare while maintaining a strong relationship with their Creator. She emphasized the importance of effectively managing these responsibilities and encouraged women to seek help when needed to prevent burnout. Dr. Fatima also advised women to maintain cordial relationships with colleagues and remain diligent at work, avoiding idleness. She urged working women to see themselves as heroes in their communities and to be grateful for the opportunity to assist those around them.

The Registrar, Samira Balarabe, Esq., also addressed the gathering, advising women to strive for a balance between their home responsibilities and professional duties. She acknowledged the challenges of being a wife, mother, or student yet encouraged women to show up and give their best at work. Speaking to the new staff, she emphasized the importance of taking their work seriously and resisting the temptation to follow the crowd. Similarly, the SA to the VC on Research Culture, Prof. Hauwau E. Yusuf, highlighted the resilience of women, celebrating their ability to overcome challenges and excel despite the pressures they face.
Dr. Maryam Ahmed urged women to uphold the fear of Allah in their hearts and to accept life’s challenges as part of His divine plan. She welcomed the new staff and encouraged them to contribute actively to the good work of the KASU Majlis.
The Amira of the KASU Majlis Sisters Forum and SA to the VC on E-Learning, Dr. Fatima S. Kabir, provided a summary of the forum’s activities, including assistance to neighboring communities, payment of school fees for less privileged students, and various charitable efforts. She announced their current project—a Ramadan feeding program aimed at providing meals for a large number of people across Kaduna metropolis.
The lecture concluded with the registration of new members into the KASU Majlis Sisters Forum, encouraging them to participate in community development initiatives.
