Ibrahim Abbas Sodangi, PhD

Dr. Sodangi brings over 12 years of teaching and research experience in Agronomy/Weed Science, having held academic and administrative roles at the University of Maiduguri and Kaduna State University. With a Ph.D. in Crop Production/Weed Science and extensive research in drought-tolerant maize, he demonstrates excellence in teaching, cutting-edge research, and leadership.

Biography

Ibrahim Abbas Sodangi was born in the small agrarian village of Kogum River, located in Jema’a LGA of Kaduna State, Nigeria. Prior to joining the university system as an academic, Sodangi worked as a Research Assistant with the International Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) and at Afribank Plc, where he rose to the position of Pro-Manager. He has over 10 years of teaching and research experience in the field of Agronomy/Weed Science at the university level.

Sodangi, who transitioned from the University of Maiduguri to Kaduna State University about three years ago, has held various academic and administrative roles and has published extensively in reputable national and international journals. He is currently an Associate Professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Kaduna State University.

Dr. Sodangi holds a Ph.D. in Crop Production/Weed Science, an M.Sc. in Crop Physiology and Production, and an MBA in Finance, all from the University of Maiduguri. He also holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Crop Production) from A.B.U. Zaria.

At the University of Maiduguri, Sodangi led a research team focused on drought-tolerant maize for West Africa, sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, for five years. He was also the Lead Consultant for the Agricultural Technology Transfer component of the Fadama II Project, implemented by the Borno State Agricultural Development Programme in 2012.
