Professor Maryam Abdu has called for urgent action to reverse the decline in Nigeria’s education system, warning that educational decay poses a serious threat to national development.
Delivering the keynote address at the 2026 Annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Kaduna Capital School, Kaduna, she identified poor funding, inadequate infrastructure, weak teacher welfare, academic dishonesty, insecurity, and outdated curricula as major factors undermining quality education.

The KASU scholar stressed that rebuilding the sector requires increased investment in teachers, modern learning facilities, curriculum reforms, and equitable access to quality education.
She urged governments, schools, parents, and other stakeholders to work together to restore educational standards, describing education as the foundation for innovation, economic growth, good governance, and sustainable national development.
