The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Yusha’u Ibrahim Ango, has commended the Kaduna State University (KASU) contingent for their outstanding performance at the just-concluded 27th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) held in Jos. Addressing the athletes upon their return, Prof. Ango praised the team for representing the University with excellence and assured them of a grand celebration to honor their achievement.
Also speaking, the Registrar, Barr. Samira Balarabe, expressed her delight at the team’s accomplishments, stating that their success brought pride not only to the University but to Kaduna State and Nigeria at large. She added that “If happiness were a human being, our names would all be Happiness.” She further affirmed that all concerns regarding their examinations had been addressed.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, acknowledged the University’s keen interest in monitoring the athletes’ progress throughout the tournament and applauded their hard work and dedication.
The President of the Kaduna State University Alumni Association, Mal. Abdulhadi Abdullahi, reiterated the alumni’s pride in the team and pledged to award scholarships to the best five athletes in collaboration with the Sports Directorate.
In his remarks, the Dean, Student Affairs Division, Prof. M. K. Dauda, highlighted the significant role of the University Management in facilitating the team’s success from preparations to the competition. He thanked all stakeholders for their contributions and urged the students to remain disciplined and focused.
A total of 91 universities participated in the 27th NUGA Games, with 75 competing and 16 attending as observers. Kaduna State University emerged 14th overall, securing:
Four gold medals in Badminton Team, Long Jump, Badminton Women’s Doubles, and Male Beach Volleyball
Four silver medals in Badminton Women’s Singles, High Jump, 10,000m Race, and Beach Volleyball (Women)
Two bronze medals in Football and Taekwondo
