KASU Library and Biochemistry Department Host Lecture on Laboratory Quality Management

The Research Support Services Department of the Kaduna State University Library, in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, Kaduna State University, on Wednesday, 10th September 2025, organized a lecture themed “Exploring Challenges and Solutions in Laboratory Quality Management.” The event, which was held at the Research Support Services Department, KASU Library, was designed to equip researchers, laboratory technicians, and students with practical strategies to overcome common hurdles in modern laboratory practice.

The lecture was facilitated by Dr. Rabiat Abubakar Idrees, a certified laboratory specialist and lecturer, Department of Biochemistry. She emphasized the importance of laboratory quality management systems in ensuring accuracy, consistency and reliability of results while also highlighting the need for effective leadership, adequate training, proper documentation, modern equipment, and sufficient funding to achieve best practices.

Participants were taken through the challenges facing laboratories, ranging from staff competency gaps and infrastructural limitations to issues of process control, poor documentation, and lack of effective assessment frameworks. Practical solutions were also presented, including continuous staff development, adoption of modern technologies, preventive equipment maintenance, mentorship programs and collaborations with international organizations such as WHO and ISO.

The session also provided room for questions, answers, and contributions, allowing participants to share their experiences and suggest practical ways of improving laboratory quality management across different units of the university.

The lecture ended with a call for commitment, resource investment, and continuous training to build a strong quality culture, while stressing that accreditation remains vital in enhancing trust and credibility in laboratory results.
