As part of the global commemoration of International Archives Week 2025, Kaduna State University, in collaboration with the International Council on Archives (ICA) and the Society of Nigerian Archivists (North-West Zone), hosted a live sensitization radio program on 9th June 2025.
The program, which aired on KASU FM 98.5 in both English and Hausa, was designed to raise public awareness about the significance of archives and to promote inclusive access to archival materials, aligning with this year’s theme: “Archives for Accessibility – Archives for Everyone.”
The session featured distinguished archival professionals and stakeholders, including Dr. Khali Allahmagani of Kaduna State University; Mr. Eke-Nkemka Amadi Nnana, Assistant Director at the National Archives, Kaduna Branch; and Mr. Suleiman Abadullahi Rigachuku, who represented the Head of Archives Section, Arewa House (Mr. Musa Salih Muhammad).
The panelists explored a range of critical topics such as the role of archives in preserving cultural heritage, ensuring transparency in governance, and supporting education and citizen engagement. They also addressed the barriers to accessing archival materials and emphasized the importance of inclusive archival practices that cater to all members of society.
Listeners were educated on how archives serve as vital tools for accountability and historical continuity. The panel further stressed the need for institutional and public investment in archival infrastructure and capacity building. The role of modern technology in improving access and preserving digital records was also highlighted.
The sensitization program successfully engaged the public, stimulated discussion, and reinforced the collective responsibility to ensure that archives are accessible, inclusive, and sustainable for future generations.
