The Directorate of Student Affairs at Kaduna State University (KASU) organized a workshop on stress management on Tuesday, 11th March 2025, highlighting its importance for career development and overall well-being.
In his welcome address, the Deputy Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. M.K. Dauda, warmly received attendees and emphasized the timeliness of the event, noting that stress management is essential for productivity and professional growth.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, also welcomed participants and underscored the significance of addressing stress-related challenges in daily life. Similarly, the Registrar, Barr. Samira Balarabe, commended the organizers and encouraged attendees to actively engage in the session.



The keynote speaker, Hon. Dr. (Mrs.) Asma’u Abdulkadir, began her presentation by acknowledging the university’s leadership for prioritizing such a crucial topic. She described stress as an inevitable part of life, often triggering emotions such as anxiety, worry, and fear. Dr. Abdulkadir outlined various types and sources of stress, including work-related, financial, and social stressors.
She further discussed the physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms of stress, such as headaches, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. To manage stress effectively, she recommended resilience-building strategies like self-efficacy, cognitive reframing, maintaining a positive mindset, and task prioritization. Concluding her talk, Dr. Abdulkadir emphasized that while stress cannot be eliminated, it can be managed through proactive coping strategies and a positive outlook.
A practical session led by Dr. A.A. Omengala, the university’s Guidance and Counseling Officer, featured a 30-minute Self-Assessment Relaxation Therapy, allowing participants to reflect on their stress levels and practice relaxation techniques.
The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Florence Suleman, who expressed gratitude to the management, speakers, and participants for their contributions to the event’s success.
