Historical Milestone: KASU’s Department of History Holds Maiden Induction for students into the Historical Society of Nigeria

Kaduna State University (KASU) celebrated a landmark event as the Department of History hosted its first-ever induction of students into the Historical Society of Nigeria (SHSN) on Thursday, 14th November 2024. The ceremony, which brought together academic leaders, students, and dignitaries, highlighted the university’s commitment to promoting historical scholarship and national development.

In his welcome address, the Head of the Department of History, Dr. Shehu Sulaiman, described the occasion as a historic milestone, underscoring the department’s dedication to academic excellence. Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Gaius Jatau, commended the students for their enthusiasm and dedication. He noted the induction of an unprecedented 100 students, which is a first in the North West Zone.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Yusha’u I. Ango, congratulated the inductees and urged them to embrace their future roles as custodians of history. Prof. David Ibua, Vice Presidents of the Historical Society of Nigeria, who represented the society’s president, delivered an inspiring message, stressing the centrality of evidence-based historical study to national progress.

The event also featured the presentation of certificates to the inductees and awards to staff for their outstanding contributions to the department. In his closing remarks, Prof. H.O. Aboh, Director of KASU Consult, lauded the organizers and expressed optimism about the future impact of the inductees.

The ceremony marks a new chapter for KASU’s Department of History and reinforces the vital role of history in shaping a nation’s future.
