Dr. Sulaiman Shehu, born in Zaria, Kaduna State, is a distinguished Nigerian academic and historian. He is a member of the History Department at Kaduna State University (KASU), where he has been serving since 2011. Dr. Shehu obtained his B.A. in History from Bayero University, Kano, in 1987, followed by an M.A. and PhD in History from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in 2011 and 2018, respectively.
His academic journey began in Zaria, where he attended LEA Primary School, Kufena College, and KCAST, before moving on to further studies at BUK and ABU. His research interests focus on social and economic history, particularly in relation to the cotton industry in Zaria Province and the political dynamics within the Zazzau Emirate.
Dr. Shehu has held numerous administrative roles at KASU, including Head of the History Department and Director of the College of Basic Studies. His scholarly contributions include research on Zaria’s cotton production, the Sokoto Factor in Zazzau’s politics, and commercialization in public service. Additionally, Dr. Shehu has been involved in various community initiatives and media appearances, enhancing public understanding of historical issues in Northern Nigeria.
Dr. Shehu’s areas of specialization encompass social and economic history, with a particular focus on West African and Ottoman history. He is fluent in Hausa, English, and Arabic.
