Biography

Dr. Halima Bello-Manga is an accomplished academic and consultant with a career dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of vulnerable populations, particularly women and children. Her professional objectives center on the efficient utilization of resources, impactful teaching, and transformative research.

A specialist in haematology and blood transfusion, her research focuses on sickle cell disease, addressing the devastating complications of this condition in resource-limited settings. She is the Principal Investigator of the NIH-funded study on stroke prevention in children with sickle cell anemia, which explores innovative community-based approaches to care. Her work has also contributed to major collaborative studies, including the SPRING trial and the Afolabi Stroke Registry.

Dr. Bello-Manga holds an MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, an MPH from the University of Liverpool, and is a Fellow of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. Currently an Associate Professor and Dean at Kaduna State University, she has held key leadership roles, including Deputy CMAC for Research Ethics and Partnerships.

Her dedication to community health is evident through her outreach efforts, mentorship roles, and radio advocacy programs on sickle cell disease. Fluent in English, Hausa, and Fulfulde, she is passionate about reading, traveling, gardening, and empowering communities through knowledge and care.
