The Student Affairs Division of Kaduna State University set a purposeful tone for the academic journey of newly admitted students with a comprehensive orientation programme held on April 8, 2026. The event underscored the university’s strong commitment to student welfare, academic excellence, and holistic development, bringing together key administrators to equip students with essential knowledge about campus life. Central to the engagement were practical insights into academic processes, student support services, security awareness, digital resources, and institutional values ensuring that students begin their university experience informed, prepared, and inspired.



In his opening remarks, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. M. K. Dauda, warmly welcomed the students and emphasized the importance of orientation as a critical foundation for university life. He explained that the division operates through five core units. Guidance and Counselling, Scholarships, Hostel Management, Student Leadership, and Hostel Administration each designed to enhance student welfare and personal development. Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Strategy, Innovation, and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen Andow, delivered a keynote address that combined reflection with motivation. She urged students to value the privilege of admission, noting that only a small percentage of applicants secure placement, and encouraged them to remain disciplined, focused, and balanced in both academic and social pursuits.



Further enriching the programme, Mrs. Amina Audu Abutu of Academic Affairs highlighted the university’s commitment to producing ethical and globally competitive graduates, stressing the importance of proper and timely academic documentation. Students were also guided through the structural layout of the university by the Deputy Director of Corporate Services, Dr. Aliyu Tahir, who introduced major facilities and colleges while encouraging familiarity with the campus environment. Library services were presented by Dr. Hadiza Talatu, Deputy Librarian, who described the library as a central hub for research and learning and emphasized strict adherence to its regulations. Security awareness formed a vital component of the orientation, as the Chief Security Officer, Mallam Nasiru, advised students to remain vigilant, take personal responsibility for their safety, and avoid risky behaviours.



The programme also addressed critical aspects of student life and institutional policy. Mrs. Florence Suleman, Deputy Registrar of Student Affairs, elaborated on the division’s responsibilities, including the management of student associations, NYSC mobilization, and post-graduation processes. Similarly, Mr. Godswill Atiku, Academic Planning Officer, stressed the importance of the Student Handbook and strict compliance with academic regulations. Dr. Deborah Bijimi of the Centre for Gender Studies reaffirmed the university’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, assuring students of safe and confidential reporting channels. In addition, Umar Abdullahi Diso of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) highlighted the role of digital platforms in facilitating registration, e-learning, and communication across the university.


The orientation concluded with closing remarks by Mallam Ishaq Salihu, a counsellor in the Student Affairs Division, who encouraged students to remain focused and purposeful. He reminded them that while the orientation marks the beginning of their academic journey, success at graduation ultimately depends on their discipline, commitment, and determination.
