Professor Cyril Gwazah Afuwai, FNIP, is a Professor of Applied Geophysics and Deputy Provost of the College of Computing, Engineering and Sciences at Kaduna State University. He is a seasoned researcher with over 50 publications and extensive supervision experience across geophysics and physics.

Biography

Professor Cyril Gwazah Afuwai, FNIP, is a distinguished Professor of Applied Geophysics and the Deputy Provost of the College of Computing, Engineering and Sciences at Kaduna State University. He is widely respected for his contributions to teaching, research, and academic leadership within Nigeria and beyond. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in 2006 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a specialization in Energy and Environment. He later earned his Master of Science degree in Applied Geophysics in 2011 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2015, focusing on groundwater and mineral exploration, environmental geophysics, and borehole geophysics. Professor Afuwai has authored over 50 scientific publications, including journal articles and books in reputable local and international outlets. He has an outstanding record of academic mentorship, having supervised 4 PhD dissertations, 22 MSc theses, and numerous undergraduate research projects in Physics and Applied Geophysics across several institutions. His leadership experience includes serving as Head of the Physics Unit at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Acting Head of Department at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, and Dean of the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences at Kaduna State University. In recognition of his scholarly impact, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (FNIP) in 2025. He is also an active member of NMGS and SEG, and a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin, USA.
