KASU SEALS INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION WITH LOMONOSOV MOSCOW STATE UNIVERSITY TO BRIDGE DIGITAL GAPS AND ADVANCE ACADEMIC EXCHANGE

Kaduna State University (KASU) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Faculty of Journalism, Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), Russian Federation, aimed at expanding scholarly cooperation, strengthening technological capacity, and addressing disparities in access to media and digital communication tools.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed during a meeting of the MSU Academic Council, reaffirms the commitment of both institutions to bridging the global digital divide through enhanced knowledge exchange and research collaboration in communication, media studies, and emerging technologies.

The signing ceremony, jointly conducted by the Dean of the Faculty of Journalism, Prof. Elena Vartanova, and the Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa—represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Yusha’u Ibrahim Ango—also had in attendance the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali; the Director, Centre for Digital Integration and Social Informatics, Prof. Ayodele Joseph; and the Director, ICT, Engr. Martins Sambo.

The event highlighted the longstanding engagement between MSU and Nigerian scholars, many of whom have participated in MSU’s academic programmes, including the international conference “Journalism in 2024: Creativity, Profession, Industry”, topical seminars, and other faculty-led activities.

Both institutions expressed optimism that the renewed partnership will strengthen their international academic connections and enhance opportunities for innovation, research, and cultural exchange.

This new agreement builds on discussions initiated during the 2024 MSU international conference, where a KASU delegation comprising the Vice Chancellor and the then Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies presented papers on Africa’s unique media landscape, the impact of technology on the industry, and the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence for journalists.

Key objectives of the partnership include establishing a structured framework for academic cooperation, joint research, and scholarly exchange, as well as developing collaborative solutions aimed at reducing the digital divide, particularly in developing regions.

Additionally, the collaboration seeks to promote capacity building and innovation by leveraging the shared expertise of both institutions in digital communication and media technologies.

Kaduna State University looks forward to a productive and enduring partnership that will not only deepen academic ties with Lomonosov Moscow State University but also contribute significantly to global efforts toward digital inclusion.
