Dr. Samaila Mohammed Mijinyawa, a lecturer at Kaduna State University, is renowned for his excellence in teaching and research. With a Ph.D. in African Languages, his expertise spans linguistics, sociolinguistics, and phonology. He is dedicated to advancing education and contributing to scholarly discussions on language contact and linguistics.
Samaila Mohammed Mijinyawa was born in Kaduna, Nigeria, where he also hails from. He is a lecturer in the Department of Nigerian Languages and Linguistics at Kaduna State University (KASU), a position he has held since 2006. Dr. Mijinyawa’s academic journey began at Babban Dodo Primary School in Kaduna, followed by secondary education at Day Secondary School, Kakuri. He furthered his studies at the College of Advanced Studies in Zaria and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1991 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Linguistics from Imo State University in 2006, and recently completed his Ph.D. in African Languages (Linguistics) from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2023.
His academic specialization includes Linguistics, with a focus on Sociolinguistics, Phonology, and Language Contact. His Ph.D. research, “A Sociolinguistic Analysis of the Influence of Hausa on Ayu Language of Kaduna State,” was supervised by Professor M.Y. Tsoho. Dr. Mijinyawa has contributed to various academic forums and delivered papers on linguistic phenomena such as language contact and lexical pluralization. He teaches undergraduate courses on Hausa linguistics, syntax, phonology, and sociolinguistics at KASU, and supervises numerous student projects in the field of linguistics.
Dr. Mijinyawa is married, fluent in Hausa and English, and is deeply committed to advancing research and education in Nigerian languages.
