The Center for Mentorship and Career Development (CMCD), in collaboration with the Registry Department, successfully hosted a two-day orientation and re-orientation programme for newly recruited and existing staff on 22nd and 23rd July 2025 at the University’s main campus. The event, which attracted an impressive turnout of over a thousand staff members, aimed to align staff with the University’s core values, enhance professional growth, promote mentorship, and foster institutional ethics and productivity.
Key highlights included presentations from university leadership and prominent staff, including Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, the Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Helen Afang Andow, who outlined the University’s Future Vision and Strategic Plan. Sessions covered a wide range of topics such as workplace ethics, digital literacy, career advancement, and financial literacy. In her opening remarks, Barr. Samira Balarabe, the Registrar, emphasized the importance of staff aligning with the University’s core values of integrity, discipline, and unity. The event was further strengthened by the leadership of Dr. Bashariya Baba Mustapha, the Director of CMCD, who expressed gratitude for the active participation and insightful contributions made by both the facilitators and attendees.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the relevance and impact of the programme. To support ongoing learning, the CMCD also distributed PowerPoint slides from the facilitators’ sessions to all attendees for further study.
