Muhammed Lawal Abubakar

Dr. Muhammed L. Abubakar is a passionate geographer and climate scientist specializing in natural resource management, GIS, and climatology. His research explores climate variability, hydrology, and environmental sustainability, advancing data-driven solutions for ecosystem resilience and sustainable development across Nigeria and the Niger River Basin.

 
 

Biography

Dr. M. L. Abubakar is a passionate researcher and lecturer in the Department of Geography, Kaduna State University, specializing in Natural Resource Management, Climatology, and Geospatial Analysis. He holds a Ph.D. in Natural Resource Management and Climate Change (in view) from Bayero University, Kano, an M.Sc. in Geography from Kaduna State University, and a B.Sc. in Geography from the same institution. His doctoral research focuses on the Impacts of Climate Variability and Long-term Habitat Fragmentation on Habitat Quality in the Niger River Basin, Nigeria. With extensive teaching and supervisory experience across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Dr. Abubakar has taught courses in Climatology, GIS, Remote Sensing, and Hydrology. His research contributions span climate change studies, hydrology, flood susceptibility, drought analysis, and urban environmental management, with numerous publications in high-impact journals such as Discover Geosciences, Environmental Science and Pollution Research, and Hydrological Sciences Journal. Beyond teaching and research, he serves as a reviewer for several international journals under Springer, Elsevier, and Wiley, and is an active member of professional bodies including ANG, IAHS, NMets, and AMPON. His commitment to environmental sustainability and data-driven solutions continues to advance climate resilience and geographic scholarship in Nigeria and beyond.
