KASU Makes History as Host of Nigeria’s First International Supply Chain Summit

The Centre For Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (PLSCM) of the Kaduna State University in collaboration with the Kaduna State Public Procurement Authority (KADPPA) organised a 3-day supply chain management summit. Themed “Advancing Procurement, Logistics & Supply Chain Through Research, Certification & Industry Collaboration” the summit commenced on December 2, 2025 at the Conference Hall of Stonehedge Hotel, Kaduna. The summit gathered industry leaders, academics, and international partners to address vital issues in procurement and logistics.

Welcoming participants, Engr. Sanusi A. Yero, Director General of KADPPA, emphasised the importance of collaboration in public procurement and governance. He highlighted the progress the authority has made in strengthening the procurement process in the State, noting that the summit reflected a commitment to transparency, accountability, and innovation in public financial management. He remarked that the summit serves as a platform for exchanging ideas and best practices, particularly in light of the increasing globalisation of procurement processes.

Safiyya Abubakar Yahya, acting Director of the Centre for PLSCM at KASU, introduced the summit’s agenda, addressing the evolving landscape of procurement and logistics amid global challenges. Over three days, participants are expected to engage in discussions on foundational reforms, capacity building, and the integration of technology in supply chain management. The agenda was designed to foster collaboration between academia and industry, making Nigeria a prominent player in global supply chain conversations.

Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, Vice Chancellor of KASU, expressed gratitude for the support from the Kaduna State Government and emphasised the university’s role in shaping the future of procurement education in Nigeria. He highlighted KASU’s unique position in fully institutionalizing Logistics and Supply Chain Management as an academic program, thus preparing students for global opportunities. His address underscored the imperative for universities to lead conversations around procurement reforms during this time of change.

Dr. Adebowale Abraham Adedokun, Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), represented by Engr. Nasir M. Bello, Director, Civil Infrastructure, addressed the summit’s significance, emphasizing that procurement, logistics, and supply chain management are central to economic resilience and national development. He urged participants to leverage the summit as a strategic intervention for sustainable reform, focusing on collaboration and innovation in procurement practices.

His Royal Highness, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, Emir of Zazzau, underscored the importance of procurement as a strategic priority impacting various facets of community life. He called for continued collaboration and knowledge sharing among professionals and industry leaders to foster innovation and resilience in supply chains.

Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, highlighted the administration’s commitment to transparent public contracting and the importance of inclusivity in procurement processes. She emphasized the state’s transformative projects, linking effective procurement to improved service delivery and community development.

The first day of the summit featured presentations on critical topics such as “Creating a Defense against Procurement Corruption” by Steve Tosh from Global Risk Alliance and “Supply Chain in the Present VUCA World” by Jemina Harry, a global transportation strategist. Panel discussions addressed key issues, including advancing gender-responsive procurement, exploring the future of supply chain management in Nigeria, and examining sustainable procurement and supply chain practices in Africa. The opening day culminated in the signing of memoranda of understanding with key industry partners and facilitated interactive sessions with government agencies and regulators, promoting networking and collaborative opportunities.
