The Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Club, Kaduna State University, joined the global community in commemorating the 2025 World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) through a series of impactful community outreach activities aimed at promoting safe antimicrobial use and strengthening public understanding of AMR.
The week-long activities were designed to reach students, traders, and the wider Kaduna community with practical education on infection prevention, responsible antibiotic use, and the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.


- WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) Program -18th November 2025
The AMR Club conducted a WASH education outreach at Government Secondary School Ungwan Rimi.
During the session, students participated in practical demonstrations on:
- Proper hand-washing techniques
- Basic sanitation and hygiene practices
- Fundamental Concepts of Antimicrobial Resistance
The program aimed to empower young students with essential health knowledge and encourage lifelong habits that support infection prevention and reduce AMR risk.


- Poultry Market Sensitization – 21st November 2025
As part of efforts to address AMR from a One Health perspective, members of the AMR Club visited the Poultry Market at Kano road to educate vendors, animal handlers, and community members on:
- The dangers of antimicrobial misuse in livestock production
- The risks associated with using antibiotics without veterinary guidance
- How responsible antimicrobial use protects both animal and human health
Educational flyers were distributed, and traders were encouraged to adopt safer practices to prevent the emergence and spread of resistant infections within the poultry value chain.
- AMR Community Awareness Walk – 22nd November 2025
The highlight of the week was the AMR Community Awareness Walk, held on Saturday, 22nd November 2025.
This activity was organized by the AMR Club KASU, in collaboration with:
- Kaduna State University Medical Students Association (KASUMSA)
- Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students (PANS) KASU Public Health Committee
Participants walked through major routes in Kaduna, including Golf Course Road, Yakubu Gowon Way, Ahmadu Bello way, Katsina Road, and Independence way to:
- Raise awareness on antimicrobial resistance
- Distribute educational flyers
- Engage members of the public on responsible antibiotic use
- Promote infection-prevention behaviours
The awareness walk served as a united, community-driven effort to amplify the importance of preserving the effectiveness of antimicrobials and safeguarding public health
