Stakeholders Proffer Solutions on Advancing Artificial Intelligence for Registry Management in Nigerian Institutions

Stakeholders at the two-day 2025 Administrative Professionals National Conference have proffered innovative solutions for advancing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in promoting effective registry management across Nigerian institutions.

The conference, jointly organized by the Institute of Registered Administrative Managers of Nigeria (IRAMN) and Kaduna State University (KASU), was themed “Transforming Registry Management through Innovation, Digitalization, and Artificial Intelligence.” It brought together scholars, administrators, and professionals from across the country to exchange ideas on modern registry practices.

Technical sessions featured a range of presentations, including one by Professor Sabo Bello, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who spoke on “Streamlining Manual to Digital Records Transition: Tools and Best Practices.”
Similarly, Barrister Samira Umar Balarabe, Registrar of Kaduna State University, presented on “Evolution and Structure of Registry in Nigeria.” Both speakers emphasized the need to build efficiencies in records management and harness artificial intelligence to improve productivity and service delivery within Nigerian institutions.

In another presentation, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and President of IRAMN, discussed “The Crime Register as a Tool of Surveillance in a Community,” while Umar Faruk Abdulhamid from KASU’s Directorate of ICT spoke on the “Practical Application of Electronic Portals.”

Other paper presentations included Michael Edeh Ogbu, an IT consultant and IRAMN College faculty member, who discussed “Cybersecurity and Data Protection in Digital Registry Systems.” He highlighted that registry operations can only flourish with strong cybersecurity frameworks that prevent data leakages and unauthorized access.

Similarly, Dr. Babati Abu Hanifa presented a paper titled “Leveraging on Artificial Intelligence for Enhanced Registry Efficiency and Automation.”
He underscored that while AI is a powerful tool for improving efficiency, it cannot replace the human role in registry operations. According to him, “Human intervention is essential to ensure transparency, accuracy, and proper checks and balances.” He added that AI should be viewed as a supportive system that eases administrative burdens and enhances productivity.
Citing the example of a web resource: “thereisAIforthat.com”, Dr. Babati encouraged participants to continually update their knowledge and adapt to emerging AI solutions to remain relevant in today’s digital landscape.

Interactive questions and answers sessions further deepened understanding among participants, reinforcing the shared message that AI, when properly applied, can take over repetitive human tasks, not to replace people, but to empower them for greater efficiency.
