The Entrepreneurship Research and Development Centre (ERDC) of Kaduna State University oragnised its maiden “Pitch Day” on October 8, 2025, at the University’s 500- Seater Pharmacy Hall



Themed “Your Idea is Powerful: Let’s Build It Together”, the event brought together students, staff, and entrepreneurs to promote creativity and innovation within KASU. In attendance were the Director of ERDC, Dr. Jamila Mohammed, the Deputy Director of ERDC (Innovation and Incubation Support), Dr. Usman Yahaya, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Strategy, Innovation and Service Delivery), Prof. Helen Afang Andow, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Yusha’u Ango.



Welcoming participants, Dr Jamila Mohammed described the event as more than a competition, but a platform to shape minds and inspire innovative thinking.


Dr Usman Yahaya added that the initiative was a bold step toward mentorship and creativity, encouraging students to dream, dare, and do.



Sixteen student innovators pitched diverse ideas, from renewable energy to digital solutions. Following the judges’ deliberations, Ashimaai Briquette Blaze promoted by Asiya Yusuf Umar emerged first, winning the top prize of one Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000). While Janan Haven promoted by Furqan Kamal Bello and Heartball Media promoted by Joshua Yusha’u Lazarus placed second and third respectively, winning Seventy Thousand Naira (₦70,000) for second place and Forty Thousand Naira (₦40,000) for third place. The 10 best ideas were selected for incubation at the Entrepreneurship Centre.
This event reaffirms KASU’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation among its students.
