NUASA Celebrates Week with Inspiring Activities at KASU

The main campus of the Kaduna State University (KASU) played host to the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association (NUASA) Week 2025, which commenced on Monday, 15th September 2025, at the University’s main campus. The four-day programme was designed to inspire, educate, and entertain students through a variety of academic and social activities.

The opening ceremony featured a lively rally, a colorful pageant, and an insightful talk show themed “Beyond the Degree: Skills and Technology in Accounting.”

The talk show, anchored by Miss Toyosi Benita Ogunseye, brought together distinguished scholars and practitioners who shared expert perspectives on the evolving landscape of accounting.

Key presentations included:

Dr. Murtala Abdullahi, Head of Department, Accounting, KASU, who spoke on “Bridging the Gap: Aligning Classroom Knowledge with Practical Accounting Skills.”

Dr. Isuwa Dauda, who addressed “The Role of Technology and Digital Skills in Shaping Modern Accounting Careers.”

Dr. Dadda’u Haruna, who highlighted “Entrepreneurship and Self-Reliance: How Skills Acquisition Can Empower Accounting Graduates.”

Mrs. Blessing Duniya, who emphasized “Soft Skills and Global Competitiveness: Communication, Leadership, and Critical Thinking for Accountants.”

In his remarks, the President of the occasion, Mr. Wilson Daniel, a 400-level Accounting student, commended the initiative and urged students to equip themselves with both academic and practical skills in order to remain competitive in the global economy.

The day concluded with group photography and the HOD’s Tournament football semi-finals at the Convo Ground, where students showcased sporting excellence and camaraderie.

Day Two – Academic Enrichment and Pageantry

On Tuesday, 16th September, proceedings began with prayers, the National Anthem, and welcoming remarks by Mrs. Blessing Duniya, who appreciated participants for their dedication.

Two thematic lectures followed:

Dr. Godfrey Ogbutech (FCA, FCIBN) delivered a paper on “The Future of Accounting: Embracing Technology,” stressing the importance of digital literacy, data analysis, auditing, server security, and global accounting standards.

Mr. Lawrence Akor Ukibeno, Director, Zeteo Citadel Consult, Kaduna, presented on “Research and Innovation Technology in Accounting.”

The highlight of the day was the NUASA pageant, judged by Taylor 13, Mrs. Maryam Jibril, and Kholin, where Mr. Peter Shedrack (400 Level, Accounting) emerged as Face of NUASA 2025.

A quiz competition followed, in which Miss Ayodele Rebecca Ayomide (Accounting Department) emerged winner after an exciting contest against Public Administration students.

Day Three – Sports and Fellowship

Wednesday, 17th September, featured the Grand Finale of the HOD’s Tournament at the Convo Ground.

In the female category, 400 Level defeated 300 Level via penalties.

In the male category, 200 Level emerged champions after defeating 300 Level by a lone goal.

Day Four – Funfair and Closing Ceremony

The week-long celebration culminated on Thursday, 18th September, with a Funfair at the Faculty of Management Sciences. The event featured amusement rides, food stalls offering snacks, popcorn, candy, and drinks, as well as exhibitions and entertainment ranging from music and dance to clown acts and magic shows.

The celebration ended with group photography, capturing the vibrant spirit of NUASA and the unity of the KASU community.

NUASA Week 2025 reaffirmed the University’s commitment to nurturing students who are not only academically excellent but also skilled, innovative, and globally competitive. The success of the event reflects Kaduna State University’s broader vision of producing graduates equipped to thrive in a dynamic, technology-driven economy.
