KASU Hosts Accreditation Team for the Department of Nursing

Kaduna State University (KASU) received an accreditation team on Friday, 29th August 2025, to evaluate and strengthen the Department of Nursing under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences.

The team was welcomed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Strategy, Innovation and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen Afang Andow, who received them on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa. She highlighted the growing demand for nursing education in Kaduna State, noting that recent applications to the Nursing program surpassed those for Medicine.

Led by Prof. Sale Garba of Bayero University, Kano, the accreditation panel included representatives from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Kaduna State Ministry of Health, and other key institutions. Prof. Garba stressed that the visit aimed to provide constructive feedback to support KASU’s growth.

The delegation toured key facilities, including the College of Medicine, Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, and the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, assessing teaching, clinical, and library infrastructure.

At the exit briefing, the team commended KASU’s preparedness and recommended improvements in staffing, laboratory upgrades, student record systems, and expansion of the Nursing admission quota.

Prof. Andow assured the team that many recommendations were already in progress, including better ambulance access and improved logistics for Allied Health Sciences. DVC Academic, Prof. Yusha’u Ibrahim Ango, reaffirmed KASU’s readiness to raise the Nursing quota from 100 to 200 students while maintaining quality.

The visit concluded with a vote of thanks by the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Auwal Farouk Abdussalam and a group photograph to mark the successful engagement.
