Kaduna State University (KASU), through the Center for Mentorship and Career Development (CMCD) in collaboration with the Directorate of ICT, successfully organized a One-Week Digital Literacy Bootcamp aimed at equipping students with essential 21st-century digital skills. The intensive training was held from Monday, 11th to Thursday, 14th August 2025 at the University’s ICT laboratories.
The bootcamp attracted over 1,000 registrants, out of which 400 undergraduate students were successfully trained and certified in areas such as computer appreciation, graphic design, data analysis, and GIS & remote sensing.



The event was formally opened by the Director of CMCD, Dr. Bashariya Baba Mustapha, who underscored the importance of digital literacy in today’s academic and professional environments. She encouraged students to maximize the opportunity, noting that digital competence is a key driver of employability and career advancement.
Participants were divided into specialized classes based on their chosen courses:
Computer Appreciation – facilitated by Mr. Abdulhamid Umar of the ICT Directorate, covering Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for academic and workplace efficiency.
Graphic Design – handled by Mr. Haruna Sa’id, who introduced students to creative design using Canva, with applications in media, business, and marketing.
GIS & Remote Sensing – conducted in two batches, with training led by Dr. Zaharaddeen Isa and Dr. Babati Abu-Hanifa from KASU’s Department of Geography, alongside experts from Geodetricks Limited, Kaduna State. The course focused on spatial data analysis, environmental mapping, and location intelligence.



Data Analysis – also facilitated by Mr. Abdulhamid Umar, focusing on Excel-based data visualization and statistical interpretation for research and business applications.
Students described the sessions as highly practical and transformative. They highlighted the relevance of learning industry-standard tools, noting that the skills acquired would boost both their academic performance and future employability.
In her closing remarks, Mrs. Amina Muhammad Mustapha, Unit Head of Training and Capacity Building at CMCD, congratulated the participants and urged them to keep building on the foundation laid during the bootcamp. She emphasized that continuous learning and adaptability remain vital for thriving in the digital age.
The bootcamp was widely acknowledged as a resounding success, achieving its goal of enhancing students’ digital competencies and preparing them for the demands of the modern workforce. It also reinforced the University’s commitment to fostering innovation, career readiness, and lifelong learning among its students.
