KASU Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry Produces First PhD Graduate

The Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Kaduna State University (KASU), has recorded a historic milestone with the successful defense of its first Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) thesis.

On Monday, 25th August 2025, Mr. Akilu Kure, the pioneering PhD candidate of the Department, successfully defended his thesis before the external examination panel. He was awarded a pass with major corrections, marking a significant academic achievement for both the candidate and the Department.

Commenting on the landmark success, the Head of Department, Dr. Yahaya Yakubu, described the moment as “a great breakthrough that reflects the steady progress of our Department in advancing research and postgraduate training.” He further noted that the achievement demonstrates KASU’s growing capacity to nurture scholars capable of contributing meaningfully to science, industry, and national development.

This milestone places the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry among doctoral training centers and contributes to KASU’s broader vision of excellence in teaching, research, and community service.
