Kaduna State University witnessed a monumental event as the College of Medicine celebrated its 6th Sponsio Academica and Oath-Taking Ceremony for graduating students. The ceremony took place at the university’s 1000-seater auditorium on Friday, 25th July 2025, marking a pivotal milestone for the medical students in an event filled with inspiring speeches and heartfelt appreciation.



Prof. Husain Yahya, Provost of the College of Medicine, welcomed everyone to his first Sponsio as Provost. He highlighted the importance of the modified Hippocratic Oath for new medical graduates, reflected on his own graduation, and congratulated the graduates on their achievements. “Since its inception in 2008, the College of Medicine at KASU has grown significantly, with 187 doctors graduated and 539 students currently enrolled,” the Provost said. He acknowledged key contributors to the college’s development and announced an upcoming lecture on integrating Artificial Intelligence into medical training. Graduates were encouraged to be proud ambassadors of their institution and to serve humanity with dedication. He expressed gratitude to all guests and the organizing committee.



The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, emphasized the significance of the day for the entire university community, marking the end of perseverance and the beginning of a new journey filled with further education and hard work. He expressed immense pride in the College of Medicine, stating that KASU’s strength lies not in its size but in the exceptional students it produces. While the College of Medicine continues to excel, other programmes at KASU are also striving to cultivate graduates who will become global citizens. He advised graduates to build connections as they enter the professional world and to embrace opportunities, reminding them of the government’s significant investment in their training.



Prof. Fatima Kyari, Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, expressed her delight at being present for the induction. She commended the Vice Chancellor and praised the faculty for their dedication. Prof. Kyari encouraged graduates to serve, train others, and maintain humanity, kindness, and cultural awareness in their practice. She stressed the importance of teamwork and ethical responsibilities in medicine, urging graduates to continue their studies and uphold the profession’s integrity for patient safety.
The ceremony featured the pledge for inductees, signing of the register, collection of licenses, and the presentation of awards to academically outstanding students. The Vice Chancellor, members of Management, and several guests donated cash gifts to the best graduating student, Durojaiye Omolara.



Guest lecturer, Prof. Mu’utassim Ibrahim, delivered an engaging lecture on integrating Artificial Intelligence into medical training and practice, stressing the need for adaptation to technological advancements. He reminded the graduating MBBS Class of 2025 of their responsibilities, urging them to prioritize compassion and well-being as they begin their careers.
In his goodwill message, Prof. Abdulkadir M. Tabari, Chief Medical Director of Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna State University, congratulated the graduates and reminded them that the vow they took is a lifelong covenant. He appreciated the Vice Chancellor and the entire management for their consistent support in achieving the milestone observed at the ceremony. He welcomed the graduates to their internship at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, noting that learning continues every day and encouraging them to serve with empathy. He also thanked the graduates’ families and congratulated them once again.
Delivering his goodwill message, the Pro-Chancellor of Kogi State University, Prof. Ibrahim Abdu-Aguye, stressed the importance of selecting the right individuals for medical education and commended KASU for gaining national recognition. He congratulated the students for their resilience and acknowledged the support of their colleagues and parents throughout the journey.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the Deputy Provost, Dr. Stephen B. Bature, who expressed gratitude to the university management and the Vice Chancellor for their presence. He thanked his colleagues for their support in achieving this milestone and extended appreciation to members of the press and all attendees, marking the end of the event.
