Northwest Students Receive Financial Grants Worth ₦5 Billion — Speaker Abbas Flags Off Disbursement

Students across the seven states of Nigeria’s Northwest region have received financial grants ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦800,000, under a special educational support initiative spearheaded by the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen.

The disbursement ceremony, which marked the official flag-off of the grant, brought together students from various tertiary institutions across the region. A total of ₦5 billion was instantly transferred to the accounts of the beneficiaries.

The event was hosted at the Dr. M. I. Maccido Hall of the Federal University of Education, Zaria. The Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Dr. Sulaiman Balarabe, welcomed the Speaker and other dignitaries to the ceremony.

Speaking on behalf of the heads of tertiary institutions in the Northwest, the Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University (KASU), Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, lauded the initiative. He noted that the grants arrived at a critical time, offering much-needed support to students and easing the financial burden on their families.

The high-profile event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Honourable Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Abbas Lawal; the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman; the Director-General of SMEDAN, Dr. Charles Odii; the APC National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad; the Chairman of APC Kaduna State, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada (Rtd.); along with Vice Chancellors, Rectors, Director-Generals, and other distinguished guests.

While addressing the gathering, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas reaffirmed his commitment to supporting students and advancing educational development across the country. He also commended the management of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, for providing a conducive environment and for hosting the event seamlessly.

The grant initiative is part of Speaker Abbas’s broader commitment to promoting educational opportunities and fostering national development through youth empowerment
