Mass Communication Department at Kaduna State University, is a fully accredited course by the National Universities Commission. The philosophy of the Department is to provide a comprehensive education in both theoretical aspects and hands-on practical training with a curriculum focus on journalism, broadcasting, and theories of mass communication in producing graduates who are well-equipped with the skills needed to excel in the evolving media industry and corporate organizations.

SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES

Kaduna State University provides a conducive environment for groundbreaking research aimed at fostering scholarship. The Department of Mass Communication engages in a wide range of research that reflects the rapidly evolving field of communication. Our research addresses the challenges posed by the global shift from traditional to digital media. Recently, a study was conducted on “An exploration of the nexus between Artificial Intelligence assisted learning and undergraduate performance in selected universities in Northern Nigeria”. This research aimed to identify strategies for improving undergraduates’ academic performance and learning outcomes, recommend AI integration in Northern Nigeria universities and enhance the understanding of AI-assisted learning’s impact on undergraduate performance.

CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOPS

The department organizes an annual international conference and participates in a series of workshops as a gateway to foster knowledge sharing and scholarly discourse including:
– Digital Journalism.
– Public Relations and Crisis Management.
– Advertising and Brand Management.
– Media Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
The Department recently participated in the annual conference of the College, tagged ” Sustainable Development and Challenges of Insecurity: Facing the Future Together”, aimed at addressing security concerns through comprehensive policy reforms, community-driven strategies, and enhanced governance at all levels.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

The Mass Communication Department at Kaduna State University boasts a state-of-the-art TV Broadcasting Studio and campus radio station, KASU FM 98.5 (The Voice of Peace and Unity). Our experienced staff manned the production and transmission facilities in the different studios and partake in the multitasking role of practical training with cutting-edge editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut), High-performance computers and storage capacity, audio-visual Equipment, Professional cameras, lighting, and sound equipment for field productions.
