We welcome you to the department of Medical/Clinical microbiology fully domiciled in the Faculty of
Basic Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine, Kaduna State University. Medical Microbiology is the branch
of Medicine that deals primarily with the mechanism of causation, diagnosis, treatment and prevention
of infectious diseases. It is the pillar on which evidence-based diagnosis and management of infectious
diseases is rooted.

About the Department

Shaping Sustainable Solutions

The Department of Clinical Microbiology and Parasitology, KASU was set up in 2015 as an off shoot from
its parent department – Department of Pathological Sciences. It has however undergone a lot of changes
since then; thanks to the Kaduna State University Vice Chancellor, the Provost (College of Medicine) and
the University management team, the State Ministry of Health and Nigeria Center for Disease prevention
and Control (NCDC).
It started with about 2 members of staff; which later expanded to comprise of 1 Professor, 2 Senior
Lecturers, 2 Lecturer l, 3 medical laboratory scientists, 2 laboratory technicians, 1 laboratory technologist
and an Admin officer.

The Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in medical microbiology and related fields.

Research

The department is deeply Involved in research work, especially in areas of infectious diseases (Bacterial,
viral, parasitic, Mycologic and mycobacterial), Infection Prevention and Control, Antimicrobial
Stewardship and Antimicrobial resistance.

The Department of Medical Microbiology at KASU fosters scholarly discourse and promotes a research-driven culture through platforms that recognize and value intellectual contributions in the field of study. The department hosts:
