KASU PROFESSOR APPOINTED AS MEMBER OF ACCREDITATION PANEL THAT VISITED UDUTH

Prof. Jerry G. Makama of the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, College of Medicine at Kaduna State University was appointed recently as a member of the accreditation panel that visited Uthman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto from 19th- 21st June 2024.

Professor Makama, a distinguished figure in medical education and healthcare management was part of a team of experts in surgical fields which included General Surgery, Urology, Cardiothoracic surgery, Plastic and reconstruction, Neurosurgery and Paediatric surgery that evaluated UDUTH’s programs and facilities. The team’s expertise was expected to guide the hospital in maintaining and enhancing its standards of medical training and patient care. The accreditation visit was a crucial exercise and process in ensuring that UDUTH continues to meet the high standards required for medical education and service delivery in not just Nigeria but the entire West African subregion.

The exercise was at the instance of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), a professional organization that promotes education, training, examinations and research in surgery in West Africa.
Other members of the panel were; Prof. K.D.T Yawe, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada, Prof. A. Sani, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano, Prof. EA Ameh, National Hospital Abuja, Prof. R Mahmud, National Hospital Abuja, Dr F.Abikoye, National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi, Lagos and Dr Y. Adamu, Federal Medical Center Keffi.
