Empowering Women Entrepreneurs through Technology Initiative: Insights from the “Women in Tech Skills Training” Program at Kaduna State University

The “Women in Tech Skills Training” program, a two-day event starting today, Tuesday, 25th June 2024, at the ICT Computer Room, Kaduna State University, aimed to empower women entrepreneurs with essential technology skills. The event was organized by Huawei Technology Nigeria and the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu who was represented by Hajiya Rabi Salisu, Honourable Commissioner for the Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, Kaduna State, highlighted the significant strides women have made in both international and local markets by leveraging technology to enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

She noted that Kaduna State ranks second after Lagos State in the use of advanced technology in Nigeria. She also mentioned that under the administration of the Governor of Kaduna State, His Excellency, Senator Mal. Uba Sani, 5,000 women have been trained in ICT within the first hundred days in office, in collaboration with 10 initiatives, with plans to continue training more women, especially in rural communities.

Dr. Nihilola Fafore, Deputy Director of Huawei Technology Nigeria, emphasized the importance of learning technology and its impact across various professions.

Mr. Kenneth Igwe, Professional Expert on Huawei Technology Nigeria, remarked on the significant role women play in technology and encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training to their businesses.

Mr. Chinedu Ogbeide, the Programme Overviewer, educated participants on how technology simplifies business entrepreneurship for women.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Kaduna State University, Prof. Abdullahi Ibrahim Musa, welcomed and acknowledged the initiative, stressing the crucial role women play in society. He reiterated KASU’s commitment in championing the use of technology for the advancement of education in the State.

Other guests that graced the event included the SA, Special Duties to the Governor of Kaduna State, Hajiya Amina Lawal, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Muhammad Bashir Ali, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Strategy, Innovation and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen Afang Andow, Acting Director, University Advancement, Mal. Usman Tabari, Chairperson of Kaduna Market Women Association, Hajiya Hadiza Abdulazeez and Participants from the Northwest Zone of Nigeria.
