Dear reader, you are welcome to Theatre Arts Unit, Department of English and Drama, Kaduna State University. The Department of English and Drama is one of the pioneer departments that took off at the establishment of this institution in 2005/2006 academic session. It was conceived to house English language, Literature and Drama which has now metamorphosed into Theatre Arts programme. The first sets of students to be awarded Bachelors of Arts (B.A) Degree in Theatre Arts were admitted into the university in 2018.
The department is dedicated to cutting-edge teaching and research in diverse areas of theatre and performing arts. This is thanks to the team of committed faculty and non-academic members of staff.
The Theater Arts Department offers undergraduate academic degree programme

Students participate in stage productions, film projects, and workshops that blend traditional African performance forms with contemporary global practices, developing essential skills for the creative industries.

The guiding philosophy is to engage students in creative research projects that explore the intersections of culture, history, and theatrical expression, contributing to knowledge in the field of performing arts.
The department hosts conferences and participate in series of workshops and masterclasses with renowned artists, playwrights and directors. These events provide students with exposure to new ideas, techniques, and opportunities for networking within the national and international theater communities.

THE LIBRARY
The Department of Theater Arts library offers a diverse selection of resources, including books on acting, playwriting, theater history and performance theory. With access to scripts, multimedia archives and journals in the arts, students can immerse themselves in both classical and contemporary theater literature. This curated library collection provides essential tools for academic and creative growth, supporting students’ studies and their practical engagements in the arts.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
The Theater Arts Department is deeply committed to collaboration with stakeholders in the theatre industry, organizing and performing dramas that raise awareness on important issues, such as -disability inclusion -promoting cultural heritage in preserving and celebrating local traditions through storytelling and performance.
STUDENTS ACTIVITIES
Empowering students to lead in their union activities is a strategic initiative of the Department Theater Arts students, including:
