The Department of Physiotherapy at Kaduna State University is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Our programs train students in rehabilitation sciences and therapeutic techniques, preparing them to restore health and mobility to individuals in need.

About the Department

Shaping Sustainable Solutions

The Department of Physiotherapy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Kaduna State University was established in 2019. National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification was done in November 2019 and approval from NUC was given in 2020. The first set of students were admitted into the University for the 2019/2020 Academic session. The Regulatory Body, the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB) visited the Department for an Advisory visit in June/July 2020.

Dr Rufai Yusuf Ahmad was appointed the first Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, who in turn appointed other departmental officers, such as heads of Units, level coordinator, examination and timetable officers, as well as inaugurating the needed departmental committees for the transformation of the department into an accredited Unit of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. Following His briefed tenure as the head of the department, the department also witnessed other heads in an acting capacity, they include Dr Umaru Mohammad Badaru and Dr (Mrs) Fatima Yahuza. Currently, the department is experiencing its fourth head of department. 

Presently, the department is having three (3) sets of students, 100 to 300 level, all in the pre-clinical phase of the programme, and very soon the first will transition into the clinical phase of the programme.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

Our undergraduate programme emphasizes anatomy, physiology, and therapeutic methods, with practical sessions and clinical rotations in rehabilitation centers to ensure comprehensive training.

Research

Faculty and students actively research physiotherapy innovations, including mobility aids and treatment for chronic pain and musculoskeletal disorders, advancing the field of rehabilitation science.

CONFERENCE AND WORKSHOPS

The department organizes workshops on physiotherapy techniques, sports injury management, and neurological rehabilitation, enhancing professional growth and knowledge sharing.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

We provide state-of-the-art facilities, including therapeutic labs, exercise equipment, and simulation rooms, to support students in gaining practical skills.

THE LIBRARY

The Department of Physiotherapy boasts a well-equipped departmental library, featuring specialized resources on rehabilitation sciences, therapeutic techniques, and anatomy. Students have access to textbooks, peer-reviewed journals, and case studies that enhance their understanding of physiotherapy practices. Additionally, the library offers digital access to global databases, ensuring students stay updated on the latest developments in the field.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Students contribute to society through health and fitness outreach programs, free physiotherapy camps for local communities, and advocacy for disability inclusion.
